Facilitation

The art of productive meetings: facilitation skills and techniques for all

Do you come away from meetings feeling that you haven't captured everyone's views or made the best decisions, or are you unsure how to effectively involve people with different personalities and behaviours? This course offers simple yet effective facilitation tools to help you identify priorities, make collaborative decisions, and navigate differences of opinion. You'll also gain insights into creating a psychologically safe environment and dealing with problem situations that may arise during meetings. Designed for gatherings ranging from a few individuals to several hundred, it introduces techniques to ensure every voice is heard and decisions are made with confidence.

One day in-person course

This will be a dynamic and engaging course that keeps you actively involved so that you can experience facilitation activities whilst learning, and you will receive a handbook to remind you of what you’ve learned.

It's suitable for anyone who is involved in leading or chairing groups, such as managers of staff or volunteers, trustees, HR or organisational development staff, researchers or policymakers, project managers or coaches and trainers. Please get in touch if you're not sure whether it's appropriate for you.

This course will:
  • Help you to assess your current skills and where you want to develop.
  • Consider what helps people to feel safe and included to be able to contribute, drawing on the concept of psychological safety.
  • Provide an overview of how people's different personalities can affect participation in groups.
  • Demonstrate a range of practical techniques that can be used to elicit good conversations, democratise decision making, reach a consensus and prioritise areas of work.  It will include quick decision-making and prioritisation tools, and more in-depth methods such as Appreciative Inquiry, World Café, and Open Space.
  • Look at the different approaches and tasks you can undertake in facilitation and which to use in different situations, including dealing with tricky situations.
  • Demonstrate a "facilitators toolkit" of the resources to deliver the activities.
This course can be offered in-house as well as promoted through your organisation as an open access course to members or stakeholders.  Fill in the form below or contact becky@ideastoimpact.co.uk
