Volunteers' voices

Volunteers' voices: how to involve volunteers in shaping your organisation

Volunteers have a huge amount to offer in knowledge, skills, reach into communities and life experiences.  These can enhance your organisation, improve your understanding of needs and your reach, and increase effectiveness of services.  Involving volunteers in shaping your organisation as well as delivering activities can make a big difference to your impact and can help to provide evidence for funding bids.

Half day workshop

This workshop is aimed at trustees, managers and anyone else involved in organisational or project strategy, planning or reviewing impact.  There is no “one size fits all” so it will help you to consider what works for you. We will:
  • Think about why volunteers are involved in shaping your organisation and what benefits their involvement brings
  • Review what research and good practice guidance tells us about involving volunteers in influencing
  • Discuss models of participation and volunteer management and how these relate to your organisations
  • Consider the different areas of your organisation and work that volunteers can participate in influencing
  • Think about what might go wrong in order to think about how to make sure it goes right
  • Review different mechanisms to involve volunteers and consider what your next steps might be
You will leave this session with a greater understanding of the different ways that volunteers can be involved and some practical ideas you can implement straight away.
