We are developing a range of online blended and independent learning for people working and volunteering in the voluntary and community sector working with the Good Ideas Institute.
We are at a very early stage – just beginning to publish our first courses and we need people to help us field test them.
Initial courses are focused around volunteering but we will be developing a wide range of topics relevant to the voluntary and community sector, including a focus on individual psychology at work, drawing together evidence about what works with our extensive experience of working with and in organisations.
This course will be two and a half to three hours independent learning – testing during first two weeks of May - see below for an outline of the course.
You would get to complete the full course for free, and receive a certificate and e-badge, and in return we would ask you to provide some feedback on what you thought of the course to help us refine it before it goes live.
We would like to have around 6-12 testers for each course, first come first served; if you miss out on this one, let us know if you would still like to be added to the list to test future courses for free (the next one will be How to have happy and engaged volunteers later in the summer - two one-hour workshops, and one and a half to two hours independent learning, covering what the research tells us about volunteer motivation, satisfaction and retention as well as learning about how individual psychological factors affect these).
If you are interested in testing the Volunteers and the law course please contact Janet by 28th April at jlewisjones@ntlworld.com - we just need your name, organisation, and email address, nothing more and you are not committing to anything by enquiring!
If you would like to be added to our list of testers for future courses, you can either email Janet as above, or fill in the form at the bottom of this page and we will be in touch when we have new courses to test.
We are Janet Lewis-Jones and Becky Nixon – consultants and trainers within the sector for the last 30 plus years (each!).
We are both assessors with the Investing in Volunteers quality mark and together reviewed the standard and produced the new 2021 version on behalf of NCVO.
Through our work with IiV we have spoken to hundreds of groups and thousands of volunteers from many different types of organisations and have developed a real insight into what does and doesn’t work, and what makes a good volunteering experience. We are now working with the newly launched Good Ideas Institute to develop high quality supported affordable online learning for the third sector.
See about us for further information about our experience.
There is a lot packed into this three-hour course!
You will look at topics such as:
The course is highly practical and you will download an action plan template to help you review practice in your organisation as you work through the course so that you can instantly apply your learning.
You will be studying independently which means you can go at your own pace; and you don’t have to do it all in one sitting, there are short ‘chunks’ which you can dip in and out of (there is an indication of how long each chunk is likely to take). At the end there is a ‘test of your learning’ to make sure you have picked up everything you need to from the course.
If independent study isn’t your thing, we will be launching a blended version of the course (live sessions and tutor mentoring) later in the year.
